Anyone elected to a federal office should be required to publicly respond to the questions in the referenced citizenship test. A perfect score should be required prior to being sworn in to office.

If the insistence on the part of so many Americans that the U.S. is a republic rather than a democracy has any truth, which I think it does, then a Constitution test should absolutely be required as a condition for voting. Missouri mandates that such a test be taken as a high school graduation requirement—I took mine during junior year—but it’s incredibly basic and if memory serves students didn’t care much about it.

The only problem with heightening the required constitutional knowledge as a condition for voting is that it relies on a robust overhaul of the education system. Absent some fundamental change of that caliber, people will cry voter suppression.
