It is a scary time, but my hope is that we can survive the next three and a half years until we elect a new president. Hopefully we won't have to endure an attempt to coronate King Donald.

Very well said, as always. As for voting, my very first vote was also for Nixon. Frankly, my main reason for doing so was that he had been Eisenhower's VP. Bone-headed choice, but hindsight is often 20/20.

I would have been able to vote for any of the others on your list, though I didn't. The first George Bush was, I believe, an honorable man. His boy, however, never seemed to be more than a sock puppet for Cheney.

Reagan was the one who set the stage for the return of what might kindly be called 'faux McCarthyism'. He, too, was little more than a puppet for the powers behind the throne and they did grave damage to the soul of our nation.

The ignorance is astounding. None of these people would have survived with any of my employers. They would have been seen immediately as uninformed, uninterested in learning and a danger to the company. (I ate a half bag of Lays reading this! Yes, I am a stress eater.

I use the "5 Calls" app to call my congressmen at least 2 times a week. Their staff knows me by name, some grudgingly. I protest. I will work like crazy during the 2026 election to see if we can flip one of our four Republican seats in Congress. But what else can I do.....other than eat bags of chips??? Ideas. I would take you and Lynette for coffee to pick your brain.

I’m still hoping the Republicans will grow up and salvage what is left of their party, but at the same time, I am intrigued by the “Principles First” movement that has attracted some of the courageous, former Republicans such as Cheney, Romney, etc., who have been kicked to the curb by the nuts running the show now. There is an informational meeting I am attending in Kansas City the evening of June 2nd.

My well-known dislike of Trump and everything Trump being previously established, please allow me to point out these inconvenient facts. It was President "I won!/Pen and Phone" Obama, backed by then Senate Majority Leader Harry "Nuclear Option" Reid, House Speaker Nancy "Read the Bill to Find out What's In It" Pelosi, Secretaries of State Hillary "Reset/What Does It Matter?" Clinton and John "It's All Our Fault!" Kerry, who established all of these awful Executive Branch precedents that Trump is now exploiting. A prime example is DOGE, which Obama actually created to fix his ACA website portal mess, but was never disestablished and has been repurposed by Trump. Trump is just the end result of all the bad things that they, and the Bush Administration before, set in motion years ago. He didn't just float off his golden escalator out of the blue...there's a reason why he was not only elected again, even with all his legal problems, but also won in a landslide, both by popular vote and in the Electoral College. Like it or not, this is what the country voted for. The system worked, right?
